Collections and Archives
Amersham Museum's collections and displays are linked to the history of the town and its
inhabitants. Exhibitions are regularly changed to show new acquisitions. Current displays include:
- A small number of archaeological finds from the Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age and Roman periods and coins from Roman to Victorian times
- Medieval finds including Penn tiles and the story of the Amersham Martyrs
- Interpretation of the Tudor hall house museum building and its later development
- Agricultural tools and craft industries including straw plait and lace making
- Wood and metal working tools used by chair makers, wheelwrights and blacksmiths
- Found items from old buildings including shoes and a top hat!
- Victorian and Edwardian costume and domestic items
- Traditional toys and games
- Local 20th century industries - Weller's Brewery, Brazil's sausages and pies, Goya toiletries and secret wartime production
- Military and home front memorabilia from World War Two
The museum also has a large collection of photographs of the town, its residents and events from
the 1880s to the present day and original documents from theatre programmes to train tickets.
