Jean Archer Award for Children

Schools and individual children are invited to enter the annual Jean Archer Award for a project presented on A4 size pieces of paper linked to the history of Amersham. Just pick up a leaflet and entry form with the details from the museum or print out a form now.

The competition is divided into four age groups linked to school years:
Early Years, Years 1 & 2, Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6.

Describe one of the following topics in your own words, pictures or poetry. You could even write a newspaper report from the time! The Judges are always pleased to see original drawings and handwriting.

Buildings in Amersham - Tell us about your favourite places. Are they old timber-framed houses like the museum, brick buildings such as the Market Hall or alms houses, or do you prefer some of the more modern buildings in Amersham on the Hill?

Old Toys - Come and see our display of locally made toys and our toy trains and cars that were played with by children who lived in the town between the 1930s and 1960s. What is your favourite toy and is there a story about why you chose this one?

Transport - How would you have travelled to Amersham in days gone by? Do you prefer trains, cars or a horse and cart?

Topics for the 2010 competition will be announced in February 2010, the closing date for entries will be 21st April, 2010.
